Overview
ITVDesk integrates with Milestone XProtect® through standard ONVIF and RTSP/RTSPS protocols, allowing desktops, applications, POS screens, remote operator workstations, and other digital sources to be presented inside Milestone as standard IP video devices.
This makes it possible to extend a Milestone installation beyond traditional cameras and bring operational systems directly into the VMS environment, with support for live view, recording, playback, audio, metadata, alarms, and operator interaction.

Full Stream Configuration from XProtect
Stream parameters can be managed through XProtect, including available channels, stream profiles, and video behavior according to the requirements of the VMS. This allows ITVDesk to fit naturally into existing Milestone installations without forcing a separate management model.
Channel Merge for Server Load and License Optimization
ITVDesk can combine two channels into a single video stream. This is useful when there is limited capacity on the recording server, limited channel availability, or when the goal is to reduce overall VMS load while still keeping multiple visual sources visible inside one stream.
Keyboard Activity as On-Screen Text Overlay
ITVDesk can display keyboard activity as text directly on the video stream. This is valuable for audit scenarios, workstation supervision, operator monitoring, support workflows, POS environments, and incident review where it is important to see not only what happened on screen, but also what was typed.
Two-Way Audio Communication
The integration supports two-way audio, enabling direct communication between the operator in Milestone Smart Client and the remote system. Audio input and output can be integrated to support talkback, operator assistance, remote support, or intercom-like workflows.
Microphone and Speaker Audio Support
ITVDesk supports audio from microphone or speaker sources, allowing more than simple live video. This enables monitoring of workstation sound, operator communications, or audio-driven event scenarios, depending on deployment requirements.
ANR – Automatic Network Replenishment
ITVDesk supports ANR to improve resilience during temporary network interruptions. When connection issues occur, the system helps maintain continuity and reduces the risk of lost footage in professional monitoring environments.
Edge Recording and Buffer Synchronization
When the connection to Milestone is interrupted, ITVDesk can keep a local buffer and synchronize the buffered video to the XProtect Recording Server after reconnection. This Edge Recording approach improves reliability and helps preserve critical evidence during outages or temporary network instability.
Metadata Support
ITVDesk supports metadata integration, enabling the transfer of motion-related and event-related information into the XProtect ecosystem. This allows better rule integration, event handling, and smarter operational workflows.
Motion Detection

How It Works
ITVDesk captures desktop, application, or external digital content, encodes it as a live video stream, and exposes it to Milestone through ONVIF and RTSP/RTSPS. The stream can include video, audio, overlays, metadata, alarms, and control functions.
Once added to XProtect, ITVDesk can be handled similarly to other professional video devices inside the Milestone environment, making deployment intuitive for integrators and operators already familiar with the XProtect workflow.
